Andropause
Men have their version of menopause; it’s called andropause, and though it's less of a pop-culture presence, it's a medical reality just the same. While menopause involves a sudden drop in estrogen and cessation of menstruation, andropause refers to the gradual decline in testosterone levels in men, typically starting in the mid-30s and decreasing about 1.6% annually (American Heart Association, 2024).
The Risks
Testosterone decline can lead to symptoms such as reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, infertility, fatigue, depression, and loss of muscle mass. Many of these symptoms leave men more susceptible to obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disease, dementia/Alzheimer's, and some cancers.

Can Nutrition Help?
Yes! While diet and nutritional supplements do not directly impact testosterone levels, they can significantly optimize a man’s health and longevity. Men need to make lifestyle and dietary adjustments to compensate for age-related biological and hormonal changes, just as women do. A personalized diet and lifestyle protocol can also make a big difference in a man’s quality of life -- improving digestion, energy, sleep, mood, pain, and more.
